IMG_0850The Braves penalties were their downfall tonight. All of the goals tonight scored by Campbell River were on the power play. Although the Braves offence came to life in the third, that wasn’t enough to fight off the Storm’s five goals tonight.

Tonight’s game was a physical one with lots of tension and passion. Lots of big hits, scrums, fights and unfortunately for the Braves… penalties. The Braves were in the penalty box throughout the first and second periods in tonight’s game. This awarded the Storm three power play goals while only up one man and two power play goals while up two men. Almost all the goals from the Storm were point shots that were tipped in front through traffic. Goes to show throwing the puck on new will yield good results.

In tonight’s third period the Braves offence started to awaken. Brandon Fushimi opened the scoring for the Braves with a beautiful two on one rush while shorthanded. A give and go between Fushimi and Henderson gave Fushimi an open back door for the shorthanded goal. Later on in the period Mackenzie Valentine weaved through defenders and wristed home a top shelf goal. Ultimately this was not enough though as the Storm won this game five to two.

After the game we spoke with Assistant Coach Sam McMullen about his teams plan to forget this loss and win the next game on the road: “Well it’s really not too hard. They had five power play goals so we just have to stay out of the box and keep the ice even. When we can contain them on five on five they don’t really have much. As long as the ice is even we will have a chance to win.”
